Application Process

We receive over 400 applications each year and issue an average of 30 interview spots for our 4 fellowship positions.

To be considered to be invited for a personal interview:

Candidates must have successfully completed an ACGME approved residency in Internal Medicine.

We only accept applications and supporting documents through ERAS. Documents that are sent outside of ERAS will not be taken into consideration.

ERAS opens to applicants on July 1st of each year.

Deadline for ERAS submission is August 1st each year, applications received after August 1 will not be reviewed.

Selected applicants will be invited for an interview in early October.

Only J1 Visas are accepted, with a minimum of 3 years remaining on Visa, there are NO exceptions.

Must have successfully passed the USMLE Step 1 and 2 Exams with no more than 2 attempts.

Must have passed the USMLE Clinical Skills (CS) Exam on the First attempt.

The ability to obtain a North Carolina medical license is required.

Required documents for a complete ERAS packet:

  • MyERAS Application
  • Curriculum Vitae, including your publications and research
  • 3 CURRENT letters of Recommendation; one MUST be from your current Program Director (Letters cannot be more than 6 months old)
  • Personal Statement
  • Medical School Transcript
  • MSPE (Dean's Letter)
  • USMLE transcript showing scores of Steps 1, 2k, 2s (must pass on first attempt), 3 or COMPLEX transcript showing scores of level 1, 2-CE, 2PE (must pass on first attempt), 3
  • ECFMG certification if applicable
  • Photo (encouraged but not required)
