Biographical Information
Dr. Cheryl L. Serio was appointed as Director of Advanced Education in General Dentistry for the East Carolina University School of Dental Medicine this past October 2010 and was first appointed as Clinical Associate Professor in January 2010.  She is coordinating the process that the School of Dental Medicine must undergo to become accredited by the American Dental Association’s Commission on Dental Accreditation.
Dr. Serio received her Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 1975. She spent the next seven years as a medical technologist and quality control supervisor for the Clinical Hematology Service at the National Institutes of Health.  
Dr. Serio went on to receive her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Maryland Baltimore College of Dental Surgery in 1986.  After completing a General Practice Residency at York Hospital in 1987, she accepted a position as a staff dentist for the York Health Corporation where she also served as Dental Director for five years.
In 1993, Dr. Serio and her family moved to Madison, Mississippi where she served until 2003 first as Chief Dentist and then as Director of Dental Services for the University of Mississippi Medical Center’s Division of Institutional Medicine. In 2003, she joined the faculty at the University of Mississippi School of Dentistry in the Department of Care Planning and Restorative Sciences. She was also appointed as Patient Care Coordinator, an administrative position she held until 2010.
Dr. Serio and her husband Dr. Francis G. Serio have two children, Andrew and Grace.
