Biographical Sketch
 
Dr. Josell serves as chair of the Division of Pediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics.            
Born and raised in northern New Jersey, Dr. Josell attended Temple University and later received his DMD degree from Fairleigh Dickinson University. Following dental school he completed a two-year general practice residency at North Shore University (Cornell) Hospital in Manhasset, New York. He went on to receive a Certificate in Pediatric Dentistry and Master of Dental Science Degree from the University of Connecticut.
 
Prior to joining the faculty at East Carolina University, Dr. Stuart Josell was a fulltime faculty member at the Baltimore College of Dental Surgery, University of Maryland Dental School. He first came to the University of Maryland as a member of the Department of Pediatric Dentistry where he coordinated the hospital component of the Pediatric Dentistry postgraduate program. Dr. Josell later received his certificate in Orthodontics from the University of Maryland Dental School and became the Director of the Post-graduate Program in Orthodontics. Most recently, Dr. Josell served as Chairman of the Department of Orthodontics.
 
Dr. Josell has served as President of the Maryland State Society of Orthodontists, the Maryland Society of Dentistry for Children and the Phi Chapter of Omicron Kappa Upsilon.  He is also a fellow in the American and International College of Dentists. Josell is a member of numerous professional organizations. Dr. Josell has numerous publications in symposia, texts and journals.
 
Dr. Josell and his wife Laurie live in Winterville. His son, Justin, lives in Baltimore and is a recent graduate of Washington University in St. Louis.
