The Class of 2010 of the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University will be welcomed officially at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 11 during the annual white coat ceremony.
The event will be at Harvey Banquet Hall in the Murphy Center near Minges Coliseum.
The 37 men and 35 women in the class range in age from 21 to 31 with an average age of 24. As usual, they are all North Carolina residents with 32 counties of residence listed. They earned their undergraduate degrees from 24 different colleges and universities with ECU having 20, the most. University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill has 15 alumni in the class and North Carolina State University has 10. Several students have multiple degrees from different institutions, and eight students have graduate degrees.
Dr. M.J. Barchman, associate professor of internal medicine at the Brody School of Medicine, will address the new medical students about the importance of the white coats they will be receiving and wearing for the first time during the program.
She will also lead the students in reciting the Oath of Hippocrates.
