Convocations to be this weekend

GREENVILLE, N.C.   (May 5, 2010)   —   Sixty-six medical students will receive their degrees at the annual convocation of the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University Saturday, May 8.

The convocation begins at noon in Wright Auditorium on the ECU campus.

Also in the ECU Division of Health Sciences, the College of Allied Health Sciences will hold its convocation at 8 p.m. Friday in Minges Coliseum. Guest speaker is James H. Bearden, professor and director of the BB&T Center for Leadership Development at ECU. The college will graduate 253 students. Of those, 160 will receive bachelor's degrees, 61 will receive master's degrees, 30 will receive doctorates in physical therapy and two will receive doctoral degrees.

The College of Nursing convocation will be at 8 p.m. Friday in Wright Auditorium. Speakers will be Weatherly Britt, outstanding bachelor's graduate, and Lou Evans Reida, outstanding nursing leadership master's graduate. The college will graduate 204 students: 136 pre-licensure and 23 RN-to-BSN students, 43 master's students, and two doctoral students.

Commencement exercises for all ECU graduates will begin at 10 a.m. Friday, May 7, at Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium. Erskine Bowles, president of the University of North Carolina system, will be the keynote speaker.
