The Diabetes Clinical Research Center (DCRC) at East Carolina University is a unit of the Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism in the Department of Internal Medicine.
The Diabetes Clinical Research Center has laboratory space with facilities to draw, process and store blood and urine samples. Additionally, we have two Special Studies rooms dedicated to diabetes research designed for infusion studies and clinical evaluations. Office space for the staff is located within the DCRC.
Our DCRC also includes a cardiovascular autonomic nervous system reading center that has participated in several multi-center clinical trials such as the NIH-funded Diabetes Control and Complications Trial (D.C.C.T.), the Veterans Administration Cooperative Study of Type II diabetic patients and several multi- center pharmaceutical trials.
Our sponsors have included Pfizer, Aventis, and Sankyo. The DCRC has been a premiere center for inhaled insulin clinical trials since 1999 and has also conducted clinical trials in oral agents, obesity and insulin analogs.
Equipment to perform quantitative sensory testing, EKG, Holter monitoring and transcutanous oxygen monitors, arterial Doppler evaluation, computerized foot pressures/gate measurement and cardiovascular autonomic testing is located in the DCRC. Additionally, a Lunar DPX bone densitometer is available for clinical research trials in conjunction with the Division of Endocrinology.
