Dr. Doyle "Skip" Cummings is currently the Berbecker Distinguished Professor of Rural Medicine, a full professor in Family Medicine, Pediatrics, & Public Health and an Adjunct Professor of Health Education and Promotion at ECU. He completed his doctoral degree from the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science and has completed additional coursework in epidemiology and biostatistics at Johns Hopkins University School of Public Health.
Dr. Cummings currently serves as Director of the Research Division in Family Medicine, as Associate Director at ECU’s Pediatric Healthy Weight Research and Treatment Center, as well as Associate Director for ECU’s Diabetes and Obesity Institute. He is also co-director of the Research Core for the ECU Health Disparities Research Center. Cummings has been actively involved in primary care research for a number of years with a particular interest in obesity and diabetes research. Dr. Cummings has authored or co-authored 85 publications and more than 135 regional, national or international presentations, and has received grant funding from federal and state governments as well as foundations.
