Dr. Christopher J. Mansfield's public health experience began with organizing a neighborhood health center in an underserved community as a VISTA Volunteer. He was an administrator in a public health department and a planner with comprehensive health planning agencies for 15 years before returning to school for doctoral studies in health administration and policy. His current research focuses on social determinants of health, the measurement of health disparities and life span, and descriptive epidemiology. His research has been published in peer-reviewed journals such as the American Journal of Public Health, Journal of the American Medical Association, Journal of Family Practice, Archives of Family Medicine, Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Social Science and Medicine, and the North Carolina Medical Journal. He is an elected member of the North Carolina Institute of Medicine, a member of the North Carolina Public Health Association, the American Public Health Association, and a Fellow of the Royal Society for Public Health. He has over 35 years of experience in the eastern North Carolina region in community diagnosis and community-based health interventions.  Dr. Mansfield coordinates the certificate program in Community Health Center Administration.
