Grant awarded to ECU by Bristol-Myers Squibb Foundation in Together on Diabetes initiative

November 25, 2013

Dr. Skip Cummings and colleagues are to be congratulated for being awarded a second grant from the Bristol-Myers Squibb Foundation in the amount of $450,000. The team will develop and implement a program to address the management of diabetes, depression, and distress. East Carolina was invited to submit this second proposal after achieving successful outcomes with its first Together on Diabetes project. That project, which received a $300,000 grant, empowered African-American women to better manage their disease through a “small changes” approach, while also leveraging their standing as leaders in their families and communities to influence the health of those around them. East Carolina was one of only five organizations nationwide selected for the award from among more than 180 applicants.
