This class refines skills in advanced patient assessment and care. Skills such as needle decompression, cardioversion, cricothyrotomy, intraosseous access, pain management and nasal intubations, etc.
Pre/co-requisites (state): Successful completion of all EMT educational requirements is required prior to participation in clinical education and field internship components of educational program. High school diploma or GED may be required as either a prerequisite or co-requisite of the educational program. Successful completion of an entrance exam assessing basic reading comprehension and English skills at a minimum of the post secondary grade level. Math skills at a minimum of the high school grade level. Anatomy and Physiology may be required as either a prerequisite or co-requisite of the educational program. The A&P component may be offered separately from the paramedic program or may be incorporated into the lesson objectives for the appropriate didactic sessions. Although not required, it is recommended for students to have at least one year of pre-hospital EMS experience.
