◊ Administrative Support Specialist - Contributing ◊

The Department of Emergency Medicine seeks an experienced, energetic person with excellent accounting and organizational skills to serve as the departmental grants and contract manager.  The selected candidate will assist the principle investigators with pre-award submission including preparing grant/project budget proposals & IRB forms, as well as post-award responsibilities such as maintaining and analyzing budgets, processing various accounting forms, monitoring and reporting revenue and expenditures, coordinating call schedules for studies, and verifying timesheets for payroll.  Other duties include providing administrative support to selected physicians including scheduling appointments, coordinating activities for the Toxicology Clinic, generating correspondence, answering telephones, sorting and distributing mail, processing various forms and reports, maintaining records and files, entering medical data into an Access database and generating queries/reports, and other special projects such as coordinating the annual HAZMAT Course. 

This position demands excellent organizational and problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision and meet set deadlines.  Candidates should possess basic accounting skills, excellent verbal and written communications skills, and knowledge of medical terminology.  The selected candidate will need to be adept at switching from one work requirement to another, as well as adaptable and able to refocus after frequent interruptions.  The ideal candidate will have experience working with grants, clinical trials, and sponsored program accounting and practices.  Experience in Excel, Word, Outlook, and Access is necessary.  Knowledge of the following ECU systems is preferred:  Banner Finance, PORT and Banner Human Resources.  Also prefer a two-year degree in business administration or accounting and three years of experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.  Hours for this position are 8:00am - 5:00pm, Monday-Friday.  Salary Grade Equivalent:  59 (for reduction-in-force priority purposes only)

◊ Director of Clinical Simulation ◊

The Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University is seeking a Director to lead its clinical simulation and patient safety center. This is a ground-floor opportunity to work with a multi-disciplined team of clinicians and educators to design a new center, lead its development, and coordinate its education and research functions. A creative, hands-on, collaborative educator/administrator will be required to use pledged support and new resources to build upon the existing foundation and create a state-of-the art facility and programs for educating medical students, resident physicians, multi-disciplined care teams, and other health care professionals. The successful applicant will be an experienced educator with programmatic responsibility who has used simulation as an education platform. An appropriate terminal degree is preferred. He/she will be eligible for a faculty appointment within the Department of Emergency Medicine. The Department of Emergency Medicine at the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University is expanding its faculty. We are seeking BC/BP emergency physicians for tenure or clinical track positions at the rank of assistant professor or above, depending on qualifications. Our current faculty possesses diverse interests and expertise leading to extensive state and national-level involvement. Through this expansion we hope to increase our depth and further develop programs in clinical toxicology and clinical research, and our cadre of clinician-educators. The emergency medicine residency is well-established and includes 12 EM and 2 EM/IM residents per year. We treat more than 83,000 patients per year in a state-of-the-art ED at Pitt County Memorial Hospital. PCMH is a rapidly growing level I trauma, cardiac and regional stroke center. Our tertiary care catchment area includes more than 1.5 million people in eastern North Carolina, many of whom arrive via our integrated mobile critical care and air medical service.
