Welcome to the Emergency Medicine/Internal Medicine Combined Residency program at Vidant Medical Center/East Carolina University (VMC/ECU). Our residency program is starting its 10th year and is one of only 13 combined EM/IM programs in the country. This year we are excited to be adding a combined Emergency Medicine/Internal Medicine/Critical Care Medicine pathway.
The East Carolina University Emergency Medicine and Internal Medicine programs are based at Vidant Medical Center, a busy tertiary hospital that provides care for the majority of eastern North Carolina. Our large catchment area provides a diverse patient population as well has a high level of acuity. VMC/ECU has a long standing commitment to education, research, and providing care to the underserved population of eastern North Carolina. Our EM/IM combined residency program is proud to have a role in this commitment.
At VMC/ECU, the residents are the driving force behind the EM/IM combined residency program. Residents are our best asset as their varied interests help drive change. Our program is committed to enhancing the resident learning experience, facilitating collaboration between programs, providing leadership, and continuously evolves to meet the constantly changing medical field.
