Cancer Services

Overview

Our team approach to cancer treatment focuses on the whole person to provide advanced, integrated care. We have more than 11 specialists, working with subspecialists in surgery, pathology and radiation to bring skill, experience and compassion to every patient.

We use national protocols, laser and radiation therapy, drug and hormone treatments (chemotherapy), surgery, bone marrow transplants and advanced biotherapy (strengthening) treatments. We tailor our response to the individual, based on the type, stage and history of the disease.

In addition, we offer the most up-to-date forms of genetic testing for the genes which cause breast and other cancers, as well as prevention programs based on new drugs, such as Tamoxifin. Our Clinical Trails Office works exclusively with these advanced treatments to coordinate patients, physicians and data for the efficient tracking of successful results.

We are active in research, with on-going projects in lung, breast and color cancer. Our support staff includes social workers, physical therapists and nutritionists.

Foremost in our minds is better care for the people of eastern North Carolina.

Our special treatments include the Acute Leukemia Program; Lung Cancer Program, Breast, Gynecological and other services for women with cancer, support services and Cancer Survivors Day.

Most of our cancer services are located at the Leo W. Jenkins Cancer Center, a multidisciplinary practice site adjacent to the Brody Medical Sciences Building.
