Diagnostic Dilemma Clinic

Physician referrals (252) 744-2335

Pediatricians whose patients are experiencing complicated or difficult to describe symptoms may be referred to the Diagnostic Dilemma Clinic. This service is staffed by senior pediatricians to provide evaluations and consultations for referring doctors.

Patients referred to this clinic are fully evaluated during extended appointment times. Diagnostic tests are performed when needed and the referring physician may also participate in the consultation. The clinic is intended for short-term referral and does not replace the child’s regular pediatrician.

The Diagnostic Dilemma Clinic is for children who

  • are experiencing complex symptoms of uncertain cause
  • have multiple conditions
  • have compounding issues, such as mental retardation and chronic illness, or mental and physical symptoms
  • have not responded as expected to standard treatments for complicated conditions

Staff pediatricians include:

Dale A. Newton, M.D., chief of general pediatrics

Karin M. Hillenbrand, M.D.

Kathleen Previll, M.D.

Charles Willson, M.D.
