Wound Care and Hyperbarics

When wounds take longer to heal than they should, or do not heal at all, special treatments are needed to promote healing of the skin, underlying muscle and bone, as well as to prevent infection.

Our Wound Healing Center uses a remarkable combination of new technology and traditional care for wounds caused by diabetes, infection, skin grafts and radiation-damaged bone and soft tissue. These services are especially suited for people whose wounds have not responded to other treatments.

Hyperbaric refers to the use of 100 percent oxygen at a higher-than-normal pressure or about 2 to 2 1/2 times normal atmospheric pressure. Patients lie inside our hyperbaric oxygen chamber during treatment sessions, which increases oxygen in a patient’s blood. Hyperbaric treatment may be prescribed for wounds that have not healed within 30 days.

At the Wound Healing Center, our patients also benefit from carefully developed dressings and wraps, tissue substitutes and other skin treatments.
