Surgery

Cancer Surgery

If you need surgery to remove cancerous areas, you can count on our surgical oncologists (cancer surgeons) for excellent care during your treatment and recovery.

Our surgeons work closely with your treatment team to develop the best program for you. Your treatment program may include radiation and other treatments such as chemotherapy. Surgical treatment for cancer is called surgical oncology.

We are proud to work with the Leo W. Jenkins Cancer Center to participate in multidisciplinary treatment plans for our patients. For patients with cancers of the chest and upper body, you may also be referred to the Thoracic Cancer Clinic at the Jenkins center.

In most cases, you will be able to make decisions about cancer surgery and reconstruction as part of your overall program. We work in close partnership with reconstructive and plastic surgeons to assure you of the best outcomes possible.

Cancers that may require surgical treatment include:

  • breast
  • liver
  • pancreas
  • stomach
  • gall bladder
  • intestines
  • lung
  • throat

In some cases tumors are removed, while in others, entire organs, surrounding tissue and lymph glands are removed. Your surgeon will discuss these decisions with you before your procedure.

Please call 252 744 1888 for more information about ECU Physicians and cancer surgery. You may also contact the Leo W. Jenkins Cancer Center for information about chemotherapy and radiation therapies.
