Emergency Medicine-Internal Medicine Residency
The Combined Emergency Medicine-Internal Medicine residency began at ECU in 2004. In 2009 we were proud to have our first graduates who have gone on to positions in both community and academic settings. The combined program at ECU is the tenth EM-IM residency in the United States. During their residency, each resident yearly spends six months in each department alternating between three, four-week block rotations. Residents are full members of both departments with yearly graduated responsibilities. On their Internal Medicine rotations residents staff their own continuity clinic, while on the Emergency Medicine rotations they have EMS responsibilities. A scholarly project is required of all residents as well as a senior lecture for Combined EM-IM Grand Rounds. Numerous teaching opportunities are present for residents interested in academic medicine.
