At ECU Emergency Medicine, we have developed a balanced, flexible curriculum that covers all aspects of emergency medicine while allowing freedom for individual interests. The curriculum is a blend of clinical, administrative, and didactic material, which is thoughtfully structured to assure all residents the same quality of training.
Simulation has become an important part of our emergency medicine training curriculum in that it is a dynamic, reality-based, risk-free, educational tool, click here.
The emergency medicine curriculum includes training in Emergency Ultrasound. An introductory ultrasound course takes place during July orientation followed by designated skills months during the EM-1 and EM-2 years, lab sessions at the School of Ultrasonography, and additional elective time if desired. By the end of training the resident will have acquired the level of expertise necessary to accurately perform and interpret a limited goal-directed, emergency bedside ultrasound examination. There are two ultrasound machines available in the Emergency Department for clinical use.
