Sports Medicine Fellowship

Teaching Sites

Firetower Medical Office

Firetower Medical Office is the primary site for outpatient sports medicine clinics run by our primary care physicians. This office is a new private practice facility operated by the Brody School of Medicine and houses sports medicine, primary care, a treadmill suite, procedure suite, x-ray and laboratory services. The outpatient sports medicine clinics currently operate seven half days per week.

Ward Sports Medicine

Ward Sports Medicine Complex

Ward Sports Medicine building is located in the heart of the athletic complex on the campus of East Carolina University and houses the main athletic training room in addition to the Human Performance and Biomechanics Laboratories. The training room is the principle site for the care of ECU athletes. The laboratories house state of the art metabolic and biomechanics equipment and a climate chamber. Fitness Instruction, Testing & Training Center

FITT Center

A new facility located adjacent to Minges Coliseum on the ECU campus is the site for the transdisciplinary ECU Physical Activity & Nutrition Clinic. This clinic is operated as a collaborative effort by sports medicine physicians, nutritionists, exercise physiologists, biomechanists, and health fitness trainers. The center is also utilized for a cardiovascular fitness assessment program and individual physiologic testing (e.g. VO2 max, body composition, resting metabolic rate, pulmonary testing, and lactate threshold).

Orthopedics East

Orthopaedics EastThe home of the single orthopedics practice in the county, this new facility houses clinics, physical therapy, and x-ray. The fellow will spend one half day per week in an orthopedic sports medicine clinic as well as specific rotations in orthopedic surgery.

Eastern Carolina Family Medicine Center

Eastern Carolina Family Practice Center

The primary site of ambulatory training for the family medicine residency program is the Eastern Carolina Family Medicine Center, located on the medical school campus and adjacent to Pitt County Memorial Hospital. Resources include four patient care modules, physical therapy, nutrition services, psychology, pharmacotherapy, a dental clinic, and outpatient pharmacy. In addition, a treadmill suite and minor procedures suite are located within the clinic. This is the site for primary care continuity clinics for the fellow.

Pitt County Memorial Hospital

Pitt County Memorial Hospital, the primary teaching hospital for the Brody School of Medicine and the ECU Sports Medicine Fellowship program, is the only hospital in the county and serves as the tertiary care medical center for a 29-county region. The hospital is a 731-bed facility with a level I Trauma Center, Cancer Center, Heart Center, Children's Hospital, and Rehabilitation Hospital. Annual patient volume is 36,000 inpatients, 3,000 births, and 87,000 ED visits.
