HIPAA Security Training

As a covered entity, ECU workforce members must be trained on HIPAA security issues and reminded of their security responsibility to protect electronic protected health information. This training is separate and different from the Privacy training. It will help to assist in protecting the confidentiality, security and integrity of ePHI. Information Technology alone is NOT the answer to securing confidential information, include ePHI; it must be combined with awareness and changes in human behavior.

Training Options

The Annual HIPAA Security Training is administered once during the fiscal year to all personnel who directly and indirectly provide support to a designated healthcare system. This training provides a general overview of the Security Rule and security best practices.

The HIPAA System Administrators Training (mandated by the HIPAA System Administrators Checklist) is administered on an ongoing basis to personnel who have been identified as HIPAA System Administrators. It provides an overview of the responsibilities of a HIPAA System Administrator as well as video tutorials on how to complete the required documentation.

Both trainings are available in Blackboard for the designated workforce members.
