HIIPhoto2 The graduate degree in health informatics and information management (MS HIIM) is a transdisciplinary academic program at the intersection of the disciplines of computer and information science and technology, health services administration and management, and more importantly the dynamics between the two. It is designed to prepare individuals to be informaticians as well as information management professionals who can work proficiently with clinicians and health services administrators in order to develop clear and effective health information strategies for health care organizations.

News and Events

Dr. Ray Hylock has received 2015-2016 College of Allied Health Sciences Dean's Award for Outstanding Performance in Teaching. The award was given to a faculty member who demonstrate excellence in teaching based on the performance in the past three years. Hylock is an assistant professor in the Department of Health Services and Information Management. He joined the department in 2013 and primarily teaches courses related to Health Informatics and Information Management.

Dr. Susie Harris, associate professor in the Department of Health Services and Information Management, has been elected to serve on the Council for Excellence in Education (CEE) of the American Health Information Management Association. CEE is the leading force in education strategy for health information and related professions, guiding the academic community and workforce representative through improvements to academic programs and innovation in curricula and resources. CEE consists of 12 members each serving a two-year term.

Dr. Elizabeth Forrestal, professor emeritus in the Department of Health Services and Information Management, received the 2016 Making Dreams Come True- Distinguished Educator Award from the American Health Information Management Association. The annual award is given to a Health Information Management educator who contribute significantly to the quality and research in Health Information Management education and "has made a difference in their students' lives." She was presented the award July 25 at the AHIMA Assembly on Education annual meeting.
