elizDr. Elizabeth Layman, Chair, College of Allied Health Sciences Department of Health Services and Information Management was re-appointed to serve on the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) as a member of the Fellowship Review Committee. This is a one-year appointment ending 12/31/2003. This distinguished group is responsible for making recommendations for fellowship/distinguished awards and candidacy. May, 2003

Congratulations to Dr. W. Richard Bamberg, Chair, ECU College of Allied Health Sciences Department of Clinical Laboratory Science, Dr. Elizabeth J. Layman, Chair, ECU College of Allied Health Sciences Department of Health Services and Information Management, and Dr. Harold P. Jones, Dean, University of Alabama Birmingham School of Health Related Professions, on being chosen as the recipients of the 2001 J. Warren Perry Distinguished Author Award for their article, "Leadership Progression in Schools of Allied Health." Their awards will be presented to them at the Association of Schools of Allied Health Professions (ASAHP) 2001 Annual Conference on October 10-14, 2001 in Norfolk, VA.

Elizabeth Layman, Ph.D., RHIA, CCS: Associate Professor and Chair, has been awarded the designation Fellow of the American Health Information Management Association (FAHIMA). The AHIMA Fellowship Program is a program of earned recognition for AHIMA members who made significant and sustained contributions to the profession. A resolution to implement the fellowship program was approved in October 1999 with the first applications being accepted in 2000. Dr. Layman has the distinct honor of being one of the first two individuals in the country to be awarded the designation FAHIMA. Fellowship creates a collective of senior HIM professionals as a concentrated resource to be tapped for the enrichment of the entire profession. Once conferred, fellowship status is a lifetime recognition subject to continuing AHIMA membership and compliance with the AHIMA Code of Ethics. The names of these individuals will be maintained in the AHIMA Registry of Fellows. February 2001
