General Information

  • The Division of Infectious Diseases at ECU provides a broad range of inpatient and outpatient care to meet your needs. Inpatient consultation is primarily located at University Health Systems-Pitt County Memorial Hospital, a tertiary referral center with approximately 900 beds. Our outpatient clinic, which directs the care of patients with a variety of infections including HIV/AIDS, endocarditis, tuberculosis, osteomyelitis, and joint infections, is located at Doctor's Park, a short distance from the hospital itself. Our physician and staff are committed to providing you with state-of-the-art care all within a compassionate, dedicated, and respectful environment.

HIV/AIDS Clinic

  • Individuals infected with Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) are provided longitudinal care at ECU and at several mobile clinics throughout Eastern North Carolina.  Additional help and resources to eligible patients are provided through our Ryan White Grant and Community Outreach Programs
  • in addition to the state AIDS Drug Assistance Plan (ADAP).  Our team consists not only of physicians and physician assistants who specialize in HIV/AIDS care seeing over 1000 patients, but also includes case managers, pharmacists, and counselors who are dedicated to meet your healthcare needs.

General Infectious Diseases

The ambulatory Infectious Diseases Clinic provides evaluation, diagnosis, and management of a wide range of illnesses within the realm of Infectious Diseases. The clinic serves as referral center for eastern North Carolina seeing over 1000 patients annually.

International Travel Clinic

The International Travel Clinic offers the latest in tropical and international travel medicine.  It specializes in matching medical prevention with a patient’s destination country or region by offering vaccinations, medications, safety education, and disease/illness alerts based on region of travel.  It is recommended that appointments be scheduled at least four weeks in advance of travel.

Infection Control Department

The Division of Infectious Diseases is responsible for the medical directorship and management of infection control at Pitt County Memorial Hospital and affiliated institutions.  Active surveillance programs screening for resistant pathogens has helped reduced infection rates.  The Department is also responsible for fostering preventive measures to decrease the spread of infection by promoting hand hygiene, providing protocols for emerging infections, and looking at ways to reduce hospital acquired infections such as line infections, Foley-catheter associated urinary tract infections, and ventilator associated pneumonia.

Scheduling An Appointment

  • If you are a new patient, the following is requested from you to schedule an appointment:

    • A referral letter from your physician
    • Medical records from all treating physicians including past Infectious Diseases physicians (if applicable) and hospital discharge summaries
    • Recent laboratory results particularly culture results if previously done
    • Any radiographs including MRI, CT Scans, Bone Scans or other pertinent studies and their formal reports
    • You should fax or mail these PRIOR to your scheduled appointment

     

    If you are a new or returning patient, please bring the following items to your visit:

    • Please arrive 15-20 minutes before your appointment to allow time for registration, completion of additional forms, and vital signs
    • Bring a copy of your insurance cards and any required referrals or authorizations for you to be seen
