Vidant Medical Center (VMC- formerly Pitt County Memorial Hospital) is the flagship, non-for profit teaching hospital and anchor of Vidant Health Hospital System. This 909-bed state-of-the-art facility employs over 800 active staff and 11,000 employees. There are an average of 37,000 inpatient and 266,000 outpatient visits per year. Within the hospital, there are over 13,000 admissions each year spanning from primary to tertiary care. VMC is a designated Level 1 Trauma Center and provides acute, intermediate, behavioral, rehabilitation and outpatient health services to more than 1.4 million people in 29 counties. Within the hospital, clinical excellence is paramount, with emphasis on direct patient care. The hospital is home to the Department of Internal Medicine, which employs more than 85 faculty positions and over 150 support staff.
