| Dear Colleague, Thank you for your interest in the internal medicine residency program at Pitt County Memorial Hospital. We strive to provide an atmosphere where academics, clinical care, professionalism, and humanism flourish and are nurtured throughout residency. Our residents enjoy working in a collegial environment where camaraderie and cooperation with residents, students, and faculty prevail. The educational experience at Pitt County Memorial Hospital is, in part, a reflection of our large and diverse patient population. As the only tertiary care facility serving a 29-county area with a catchment of approximately 1.5 million people, we see a broad mixture of esoteric as well as common disease. Our facility also serves as the primary care hospital for Pitt and adjacent counties. The hospital is a large, efficient, and modern facility that stresses excellence in patient care and provides excellent support services that serve to minimize "scut-work" for residents and students. Trainees are given increasing responsibility in the daily management of the adult medicine service, and our graduates feel well qualified for careers in primary care, academics, or internal medicine subspecialties after their residency. In addition, opportunities are available for research and other specialty electives. A significant number of our residents have present research and clinical work at regional and national meetings, and travel to national meetings is both encouraged and supported. Please get to know our program through our web site and feel free to contact us if we can provide any further information or assistance. Sincerely, |
