- Summary of Duties
- The Allied Health Sciences Liaison provides leadership in the planning, coordinating, delivery, promotion, and assessment of library and information services for faculty and students in the ECU College of Allied Health Sciences (CAHS). This position serves as a member of the Information Services Department and provides reference services, including regular shifts at the library’s Service Desk, and related tasks assisting library users as needed. This position also develops and delivers library skills training.
- Specific Duties
- - Functions as a liaison to the CAHS providing reference assistance, routinely interacting and communicating with faculty and students to assess information needs in support of curriculum and research projects, and responding to identified needs with appropriate library services and resources. The Liaison will assess and respond to client needs, promote and publicize Laupus Library services and collections, review subject literature for acquisition, orient new faculty, students, and staff, and provide information services as needed.
- - Develops and teaches library and information skills programs for students, faculty, and staff in traditional, non-traditional, and distance learning environments, as needed in collaboration with the Education and Information Technology Librarian.
- - Provides reference services during regular shifts at the library Service Desk, and as needed.
- - Recommends acquisitions in subject areas appropriate to CAHS for the reference collection and other Laupus Library collections as necessary. Assists in maintaining the print and electronic reference collections.
- - Reviews web-based information and resources and suggests additions and/or changes on behalf of the CAHS.
- - Participates in the work of the Information Services unit and collaborates with other colleagues as appropriate.
- - Represents Laupus Library at meetings and similar work related events.
- - Participates in Laupus Library committees and projects as assigned.
- - Participates in scholarly activities, and professional service. Seeks opportunities to enhance professional knowledge, skills, and abilities as they relate to this position and his/her overall career development.
- - Maintains professional demeanor, behavior and ethics.
- - Performs other duties as assigned.

- - Computer literacy including strong working knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite, Internet, and database searching
- - Ability to teach adults one-on-one or in groups using a variety of educational methods.
- - Use of current instructional technology and design techniques.
- Highly desirable skills include:
- - Knowledge of current health sciences information technologies
- - Understanding of the discipline to which assigned as liaison
- - Demonstrated knowledge of current biomedical information resources
- - Research design and methodology
- - Familiarity with academic health centers
- Requirements
- - ALA accredited Masters degree in Library Science required.
- - Health sciences library experience or relevant course work in the health sciences is highly desirable.
- - Preference will be given to candidates with professional experience in an academic or health sciences library.
- Terms of Appointment
- $40,000 minimum starting salary; Initial appointment is a one (1) year fixed-term contract; subsequent renewal may be fixed-term or tenure track depending upon successful completion of the initial first year contract.
