The typical Thanksgiving or holiday meal has almost 2,000 calories -- more than the average person should eat during an entire day. Here are some simple tips to help you limit your calories yet still enjoy all of the wonderful holiday food.
One great idea is to try to eat more slowly. Doing so will naturally limit how much food you eat, thus decreasing the number of calories you consume. You can also cut calories by eating smaller serving sizes and by drinking water instead of alcohol or other high-calorie drinks. Another good idea is to steam your vegetables so you retain as many of the natural nutrients as possible. When you are having turkey, avoid eating the skin because it is high in fat and cholesterol. Also, white meat is lower in fat than dark meat. Finally, with dessert, a low-fat apple crisp or pumpkin pie with a scoop of frozen yogurt is an excellent choice to help you lower the number of calories in your holiday meal.
