Nutrition experts recommend two key lifestyle changes that can lead to a healthier and happier you this summer: exercise and portion control. The best way to start an exercise routine is to start walking at least three times a week. For every mile you walk, you burn around 100 calories. Increase the time or length of your walk by 10 percent each week until you reach the recommended goal of 10,000 steps per day. A pedometer can help you can keep track of your steps and monitor your daily progress. In addition to exercise, portion control is another key to losing weight. In contrast to traditional diets, portion control allows you to cut back on the serving size of each food you eat rather than completely giving up foods. Combined with a steady exercise routine, this offers you the freedom to eat what you want in smaller portions and still shed pounds. By exercising and practicing portion control, you won’t lose the pounds overnight, but in a couple months you’ll see results.
