John MoskopJohn C. Moskop, Ph.D.

Dr Moskop has taught in the Department of Medical Humanities since 1979. He received his B.A. from the University of Notre Dame and Ph.D. in Philosophy from the University of Texas at Austin.

He was a fellow of the Institute on Human Values in Medicine and was a visiting professor at University of Calgary, the University of Montana, and the Medical College of Wisconsin.

Dr. Moskop is Professor of Medical Humanities and Director of the Bioethics Center of University Health Systems of Eastern Carolina.

He served as Chair of the Faculty at East Carolina University from 1991-1993. In April 1998, he received the School of Medicine Basic Science Service Award, and in March 2000, he received the East Carolina University Third Annual Founders' Day Service Award.

His publications include the co-edited volumes:

  • Ethics and Mental Retardation
  • Ethics and Critical Care Medicine
  • Children and Health Care: Moral and Social Issues
  • as well as more than fifty articles and book chapters on ethical issues in:
    • death and dying
    • organ transplantation
    • the allocation of health care
    • other topics in bioethics
