Orientation
Each medical student participating in international experiences for academic credit must attend an approved orientation session or sessions put on by BSOM or the Office of International Affairs at East Carolina University (ECU) appropriate for the country or region where the student will be visiting.
The orientation session will address at least the following:
- Cultural attitudes
- Political issues
- Health and personal medical issues
- Safety issues
- Possible language problems
- Preparation for the trip which will include obtaining passports and visas (if necessary)
At the orientation session the student will complete and sign standard liability waivers for ECU and BSOM. Also at the orientation session, the student will be referred to the BSOM Travel Clinic for further orientation and advice in the Travel Clinic regarding health and safety issues.
