Accolades and Accomplishments Winter 2017

  • Clinical assistant professor Shannon Powell and academic advisor Jennifer Rezeli were selected for the 40 under 40 Leadership Award sponsored by Student Affairs.
  • The College of Nursing had four faculty/alumni inducted into the Women's Roundtable on February 9:  Dr. Alta Andrews, Dr. Mary Chatman, Karen Evans, and Dr. Annette Peery.
  • Faculty member Kathy Sitzman is again offering her "Caring Science, Mindful Practice MOOC," this time for 672 participants. This means that the course has now reached 2,619 people across the globe.
  • College of Nursing faculty members were honored at the Laupus Library Health Sciences Author Recognition Awards on Nov. 15. Learn more at
  • Sonya Hardin, Elaine Scott and Kim Larson were chosen as 2017 University Scholars.
  • December graduate Jonathan Jeffries was named a Distinguished Graduate at his Air Force ROTC commissioning ceremony in December. The honor is given to the top 10 percent of the Air Force ROTC graduating class nationwide.
  • Doctoral student Sharona Johnson was selected as one of five winners for the American Nephrology Nurses Association Career Mobility Scholarship.
  • Student Laura Meyers won the NC American College of Nurse Midwives Affiliate scholarship to attend the annual ACNM meeting and exhibition in Chicago in May.
  • Donna Lake was announced as a Scholar-Teacher Award recipient for the university's Research and Scholarship Awards Ceremony.
