Dr. Connie Dewees, clinical assistant professor and clinical site coordinator at the East Carolina University College of Nursing, will be inducted as a fellow of the American College of Nurse-Midwives on May 14 at the organization’s annual meeting in Denver.
There are just over 200 ACNM fellows, each selected for having demonstrated leadership, clinical excellence, outstanding scholarship and professional achievement that has merited special recognition both within and outside of the midwifery profession. Given their extensive expertise, the fellows serve ACNM in a consultative and advisory capacity.
Among the many achievements that qualified Dewees for fellowship are the various capacities in which she has served ACNM over the past 30 years, and her experience developing and directing a nurse-midwifery center. Also of note is her extensive work in promoting state legislative policy to give midwives prescriptive authority and allow them to practice without the supervision of physicians.
