Shannon Baker Powell, PhD, RN, CNE

Dr. Powell is an assistant professor in the Department of Nursing Science.  She has experience in several clinical practice areas including emergency nursing, acute care, and school nursing.  She is a strong advocate for care of children and adolescents with chronic health conditions as well as health promotion activities in the school setting for students. She believes school nurses are key personnel with great potential for influence on today’s youth. Dr. Powell’s research interest includes health promotion in school-age children, workforce issues affecting school nurses and their practice, and educational innovations.  She is a certified nurse educator and is currently teaching courses in the undergraduate and graduate programs at ECU.  Dr. Powell is currently serving as a national consultant and co-developer of a national program for the National Associatation of School Nurses on care coordination for school nurses.
