Bio

I am an adult gerontology primary care nurse practitioner with 30 years of geriatric experience. I have an active clinical practice at the Monk Geriatric Clinic in Greenville. I earned my diploma in nursing in 1982 from Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte, NC, my undergraduate degree in nursing from Gardner Webb University in 2002, masters in nursing with adult gerontology concentration from the University of North Carolina Greensboro in 2005 and a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree from Vanderbilt University in 2011. I have been on the ECU CON graduate faculty since 2012 and am a clinical associate professor in the family, adult gerontology primary care nurse practitioner and Doctor of Nursing Practice programs in ECU CON . I am nationally recognized as a nursing content expert in management of chronic disease in older adults who reside in community and long term care settings. I am a second year student in the first cohort of the DNP to PhD program at ECU College of Nursing. I chose to earn a PhD in nursing to build a skill set in quantitative and qualitative research methodologies, research design, implementation, and evaluation strategies in order to promote positive effectual change in the health and healthcare of older adults in eastern North Carolina.

I am the key gerontology advanced nursing personnel for ECU CON's Geriatric Workforce Enhancement Program Grant and the primary investigator for the associated studies in interprofessional virtual education, community practicums for primary care nurse practitioner, physician assistant, and medical students, as well as oversight, planning and presentation of community provider education to improve the quality of geriatric care within the rural primary care setting in North Carolina.
