Bio

Dr. Reis is an Assistant Professor at East Carolina University College of Nursing. She received a BSN from Duke University, Neonatal Nurse Practitioner certificate from Pitt County Memorial Hospital (now Vidant Medical Center) and Brody School of Medicine, MSN and post-masters certificate in Nurse-Midwifery from East Carolina University, and PhD in nursing from East Carolina University. She has 40 years of nursing experience that includes 25 years of practice as a nurse-midwife and 10 years of prior experience as a neonatal nurse practitioner. She has worked in full-scope midwifery practices in a large teaching hospital, private practice, health department, and within a busy community hospital obstetrical service. She was the Project Director of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Health Resources and Services Administration, Bureau of Health Professions, Division of Nursing (HRSA) funded project Enhancing the Care of Women Throughout the Lifespan using Technology in Interprofessional Education. In her role as Project Director she developed, implemented, and evaluated web-based interprofessional educational activities for nurse-midwifery students, third year medical students, and dental medicine residents. Her research interest, in addition to interprofessional education, is self-care activities to promote health and wellness for ethnically and culturally diverse women.
