Melissa Schwartz Beck, PhD, RN, RNC-OB is a Clinical Associate Professor, in undergraduate nursing science, at East Carolina University (ECU), in Greenville, North Carolina. Dr. Beck has been a Registered Nurse since 1996 and has her certification in In-Patient Obstetrics. She is currently Vice President of Sigma Theta Tau Beta Nu chapter, a member of the Diversity Advisory Council for East Carolina University (ECU) College of Nursing, a member of ECU’s agenda committee, and serves as alternate senator for the College of Nursing. Her research in simulation and digital stories have afforded her the opportunity to be principal or co-principal investigator for 6 studies.  She has published several articles and presented her work at local, national, and international conferences. She is highly innovative having worked alongside her colleagues to develop the six-hour student simulation day,  the creation and use of the Live Lecture Lab Link as a method for bringing clinical into the classroom, and the incorporation of Pinterest and Yaptips for Yammer to reinfornce student learning in the lab, clinical, and classroom.  She's also assisted in the creation of several simulation scenarios and digital stories for use in maternal child and medical-surgical nursing. Dr. Beck is a 2016 International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation and Learning (INACSL)-CAE Fellow, a member of INACSL, the American Nurses Association, and Sigma Theta Tau International.
