Gina Woody, DNP, MSN, RN

Dr. Woody is a Clinical Professor at the East Carolina University College of Nursing. She serves as the Director for the East Carolina Consortium for Nursing Leadership (ECCNL) and teaches in the undergraduate department. An active leader in professional organizations, Woody currently serves as the National Student Nurse Association (NSNA) Leadership U advisor, and holds membership in Sigma Theta Tau, Beta Nu chapter where she has served the chapter in various roles, including President, President-elect and Leadership Succession chair. Dr. Woody has held various leadership roles, with a focus on building nurse leaders in interprofessional practice. She is a graduate scholar of the Teachers of Quality Academy (TQA), and Redesigning Education to Accelerate Change in Healthcare (REACH) an American Medical Association (AMA) grant-funded initiative to transform the East Carolina University Brody Medical School curriculum. Dr. Woody’s nursing specialty is surgery, neurology, vascular, ENT, urinary, trauma, oncology, and orthopedics.

Consultations

Special Projects/Faculty Development

  • Coordinated the curriculum and development for the Emerging Leaders Institute Webinar Series, developed by the East Carolina Consortium for Nursing Leadership (ECCNL) and Eastern Area Health Education Center, offers six monthly webinars for nurses currently serving or aspiring to serve in leadership roles. These live one-hour webinars will cover various topics such as leadership competencies, communication and collaboration, mentoring and coaching, multigenerational workforce, patient safety and quality improvements, and emotional intelligence.
  • Coordinated the curriculum and development of The East Carolina Center for Nursing Leadership (ECCNL) 6week online C.E. course Nurses influencing Health Care in the Boardroom, spring 2016.
  • Facilitated the development of the BB&T Leadership grant for five undergraduate and five graduate students participating in a leadership mentorship immersion experience during the 2016- 2017 academic year. The program was designed to foster professional development in the undergraduate student as well as the graduate student. The program enhanced mentorship skills of mentee/mentor while engaging in scholarship and creative activities involving a small change project.
  • Organized the Assessing the Hospital Staffing Gap in NC Healthcare: Is there a staffing shortage? East Carolina Center for Nursing Leadership (ECCNL) partnered with North Carolina Organization of Nurse Leaders (NCONL) to host a forum to discuss strategies for dealing with staffing shortages in nursing. Professionals and executives overseeing nursing staffing levels locally and at medical facilities across NC attended the event. The event brought leaders from across the state to consider the best strategies for confronting nursing staff levels and to ensure North Carolina has the best nursing care possible. Dr. Lake and Dr. Woody published the results of the forum in a White Paper.
