MS-DI Application Instructions

Thank you for your interest in East Carolina University. Please follow the directions and provide the specified application materials to the proper locations. Failure to complete the application process disqualifies applications. If you are admitted to the combined Masters-Internship, you will know before January 31st. Minimum Admission Standards
  • Grade point average of 3.0 or higher overall.
  • Verbal + quantitative scores at or above the 30th percentile on the Graduate Record Exam (GRE).
  • All recency of education requirements met.
  • All application materials complete through DICAS and the Graduate School.
Recency of Education Requirements

Additional courses in dietetics or a related area are required to update a degree which was completed five (5) or more years prior to the current application postmark deadline.

Courses taken to satisfy the requirements must be completed at a U.S. regionally accredited college or university. A transcript verifying completion of the courses with a grade of "C" or better, must accompany the dietetic internship program packet. Only courses completed within the last five (5) years are acceptable.

5-10 years 6 semester or 9 quarter hours. An official transcript verifying completion of the courses with a grade of "C" or better must accompany the application packet.
10 years or longer Meet current Didactic Program in Dietetics requirements with no fewer than 12 semester hours. A new Verification Statement with original signature of the Program Director and a transcript documenting completion of required courses must be submitted to DICAS.
GRE

Take the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) in time to include the scores in your Dietetic Internship Application. If you must repeat the test, it must be before the matching decisions are made. GRE scores must average out to 30% or higher in Math and in Verbal.

Financial Aid

For financial aid, only FULL-TIME GRADUATE STUDENTS ARE ELIGIBLE. Contact the ECU Office of Financial Aid at 252-328-6610. The accredited dietetic internship allows you to defer student loans while enrolled as a full-time graduate student.

Application Process
  1. Complete the DICAS application process between December 8 and December 18th: The program is using the online centralized internship application, DICAS (https://portal.dicas.org). The fee to use DICAS is $40 for the first application submitted and $20 for each additional application. Official Transcripts from all colleges and universities attended should be sent to: DICAS - Transcript Dept., PO Box 9118, Watertown, MA 02472.

    When completing the application form, applicants must include the name and an email address for each reference. This will trigger an email message requesting completion of a reference form. The form will be completed online. Students submitting more than one application will need to use the same individuals as references for each application.

    Your data should be finalized between December 8-18th. email: DICASinfo@DICAS.org.

  2. Complete the Graduate School application online: http://www.ecu.edu/cs-acad/gradschool/Admissions-Information.cfm. A fee is required.

  3. Submit your list of track preferences: List your preferences for Track placement on a sheet of paper with your name on it; rank them 1-10, with 1 being your top choice. Submit your list with your name and email address to: Sylvia Escott-Stump at escottstumps@ecu.edu by December 18th.

Note that MS-DI students complete graduate coursework in Year One and the dietetic internship in Year Two. Interns will interview with track supervisors during the spring of their first year of graduate study. There are no guarantees of placement in Greenville.
