Greenville, North Carolina, is a town of 56,000 residents plus a student population of approximately 18,000. While Greenville is the center of a large farming area, the presence of the university provides recreational, social, cultural, and economic resources. This includes NCAA Division I collegiate sports, including our football team with national rankings not normally found in communities this size. The Pamlico River is less than 25 miles away and North Carolina beaches may be reached in 1-1/2 hours driving time. Recreational facilities within the community for both adults and children are excellent.
Major industries include DuPont, Rubbermaid, DSM Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (successor to Burroughs Wellcome), Yale-Heister, Weyerhaeuser and ASMO (a Japanese electrical component manufacturer).
