The Student Occupational Therapy Association (SOTA) is an organization designed to promote the knowledge and interest in the field of occupational therapy and stimulate the professional growth of students through extracurricular activities. We focus on promoting the objectives of the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) and the North Carolina Occupational Therapy Association (NCOTA).
SOTA is divided into an education, social, fundraising, and service committee designed to decentralize the organization from the executive board and include the members in forming ideas and activities for the organization to involve itself within the community. The education committee is responsible for coordinating educational opportunities which go beyond classroom knowledge to offer to SOTA members. The fundraising committee is responsible for planning and organizing events to raise funding for the organization which enables us to provide member benefits, cover necessary expenses, and support endeavors of the organization. Social committee is responsible for planning and hosting formal and informal social events designed to foster inter-class socialization. Service committee is responsible for arranging individual and group service opportunities for the good of the university, the community and the profession. These committees report back to the executive board and information is dispersed to the members during a monthly meeting. The organization of committees and executive board allows SOTA to complete many accomplishments throughout the year.
