Professional Interests/Research
Jane Painter has 30 years of experience working with older adults, and is a professor at East Carolina University, Occupational Therapy Department. Her research interests, presentations, and publications include geriatric community-based therapy: fall prevention, fear of falling, home safety; Alzheimer's disease in relation to environmental cues to increase function and caregivers home safety concerns, and stroke. She works with a multi-disciplinary team of a geriatrician, physical therapist, and geriatric pharmacist in the Fall Risk Assessment Clinic for Older Adults at the Brody School of Medicine's Family Medicine, Geriatric Clinic. She has recently become a master trainer for the Matter of Balance fear of falling community-based program.

2010-2011: Co-PI with EAHEC for federal block grant through CGEC for Education of Health Professionals Regarding Fall Prevention and Fear of Falling. First year, received $30,000.
2008-2009: I am co-PI of the Fall-ER grant through ECU's Office of Sponsored Programs and Pitt County Memorial Medical Foundation. The primary PI is Dr. Leslie Allison, PT and we received the requested $49,936 from the foundation; Match: $21,476 by ECU for a total of $71,419 (through Office of Sponsored Programs)
