iCys - Laser Scanning Cytometer

The combination of analytic software advances with microscope features provides the iCys with a unique mode of analysis.  Once scanning and analysis are completed, the microscope stage may be automatically moved to the location of any event of interest.  The event can then be viewed using the microscope optics while simultaneously viewing the laser scan images.  The user may further utilize any number of microscope accessories  available, including opto-mechanical devices for micromanipulation and cell capture.

Features:

  • Simultaneous acquisition of multiple-flourescence and brightfield laser-scatter images, from as many as 3 lasers (488, 633, 405nm) and 5 multiplexed light sensors
  • Wide-field images, super-wide-field sampling and mosaic images
  • Easily viewed specimens with on-the-fly galleries, or relocation to individual events after data acquisition
  • The option for either laser scan images or live microscope or camera viewing, or both
  • Analysis and visualization of specimens in a variety of formats (chamber slides, microtiter plates, petri dishes, microscope slides) to analyze cell populations, cell colonies, tissues and tissue arrays
  • Precise localization of cells and tissue events of interest with the automated motorized stage
  • Autofocus for automated analysis
  • Easy interface with peripheral microscopy devices like cameras, phase-contrast visualization, micromanipulators, cloning devices, etc.

Note: iCys offers FREE training and one FREE "proof of concept/calibration" run on any samples you wish to analyze. There is no charge for data analyization.

BD FACScan - Analytical Flow Cytometer

BD FACScan is developed by Becton Dickinson.  The flow cytometer is a 5-parameter instrument for data acquisition.  You can operate this device easily, with or without help from facility personnel.  Upon request, we can provide a training session for the FACScan.  This training session enables users to operate the flow cytometer and to use the software CellQuest.  After completing the training session, trained users are able to operate the instrument without supervision.  Facility staff will be available to go over experiment design, discussion of data analysis or any other question users may have.

The FACScan has one laser at 488 nm and can collect 3 fluorescent and 2 scatter properties simultaneously.  It is important to remember that only flourochromes excited at ~488nm may be used on this instrument.  If you would like to use a fluorochrome with a different excitation wavelength, please consider using the LSR-II in the 4th floor CORE.
