Pathology Informatics

Pathology Informatics

The pathology informatics division analyzes and designs user interfaces and database systems to facilitate pathology workflow, system optimization, hospital operations and quality initiatives. Residents participate in a one month required informatics rotation which provides a foundation for understanding laboratory information systems. Topics include:

  • LIS/EHR messaging
  • instrument interfaces
  • middleware
  • image analysis
  • anatomic and clinical laboratory systems
  • basic computer programming
  • electronic reporting
  • quality indicators
  • regulatory compliance

Residents may also participate in a one month elective rotation to pursue selected topis in more depth. Resources include best of breed AP/AP and middleware systems, customized programming, a whole slide scanner, image analysis software, and a teaching set composed of over 2,000 whole slide images which are available for resident use and study. Custom programming, image analysis solutions, and collaborations are available by request.
