Office hours are from 8:00-5:00 PM Monday through Friday by appointment. Arrangements can be made to see a student outside of these hours by appointment only.
ECU students who are not in the Health Sciences disciplines can receive counseling from the Center for Counseling and Student Development on the east campus (328-6661).
How To Make A Referral
Identifying and referring the distressed student: Some signs and symptoms of student distress may include: withdrawal, procrastination, poorly prepared work, repeated requests for deadline extensions, regular tardiness, infrequent class attendance, lethargy, falling asleep in class, marked changes in personal hygiene, impaired or nonsensical speech, threats to harm oneself or others, and extreme irritability. If a student presents with any of these, discuss your concerns with the student and suggest he/she call or stop by the center to make an appointment presenting them with PCS’s phone number and location at that time.
However, it is often more advantageous to assist the student by calling for an appointment with the student present. When you reach the PCS office administrator, identify yourself as a faculty or staff member and ask for an appointment for the student. Write down the appointment time and date for the student. If you feel the situation is an emergency, explain the student needs to see a counselor immediately. Give the office administrator the student's name then ask to speak with an available counselor.
