Services Provided

The professional staff members of the Personal Counseling Center (PCC) work with East Carolina University School of Medicine, Colleges of Nursing and Allied Health Sciences students who experience a wide variety of personal, academic, and relationship problems and are always available to students in crisis.

Personal concerns may involve but certainly are not limited to:

  • depression
  • anxiety
  • loneliness
  • feelings of inadequacy
  • problems studying
  • substance abuse
  • domestic abuse
  • sexual concerns

The first visit to PCC entails an initial assessment to help determine your individual needs and how we can best assist you. At the conclusion of this assessment you and your counselor and/or psychiatrist will develop a set of goals and a viable plan of action.

Services provided include: individual counseling, group therapy, and psychological and cognitive assessment.

In addition, PCC offers an assortment of workshops focusing on a variety of skill building topics such as stress management, communication/ interpersonal issues, women's/ men’s issues, healthy relationships, and eating disorders.

The PCC staff also provides outreach and consultation services upon request to:

  • All departments in the Health Science Divisions interested in learning about student issues and the services of PCC.
  • students concerned about a friend or family member
  • student groups and organization
  • faculty, administrators, & staff concerned about students

The services of the PCC are intended for students but the faculty will provide a courtesy evaluation and assistance with community referral for Brody School of Medicine and Division of Health Sciences employees.
