Assistant/Associate Professors

The Department of Physiology of the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University, a constitute institution of the University of North Carolina System, is seeking applicants for three tenure-track faculty positions due to retirement and expansion. The Department currently has 11 full-time faculty, and a strong doctoral training program. Applicants must have a Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent degree and appropriate postdoctoral training. While individuals with expertise in any area of physiology will be considered, preference will be given to candidates conducting interdisciplinary research in the following areas: cardiovascular; pulmonary; neuroscience; metabolism and exercise physiology. The successful candidates will have a strong publication record and will be expected to develop an extramurally funded research program and to support and mentor graduate students in the Physiology and/or the Bioenergetics Programs (http://www.ecu.edu/hhp). Successful applicants will have an understanding of organ systems physiology and will contribute to team-taught courses for medical, allied health, and graduate students. Postdoctoral Research Associate Position
Department of Physiology
The Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University


A Research Associate is needed in the Department of Physiology at the Brody School of Medicine to conduct research in an NIH funded grant entitled Muscle glucose metabolism in exercise and diabetes. A Ph.D. in Physiology or related field is required. The research project involves investigating the mechanism that causes insulin resistance in muscle of obese and diabetic individuals. The research associate will be expected to be current in the literature in the field, to plan and conduct experiments, interpret data, and publish results. Techniques that will be performed include in vitro muscle incubation, Western blot for protein level and Northern blot for mRNA level of insulin signaling molecules. Experience in these techniques is desirable.

Postdoctoral Research Associate Position
Department of Physiology
The Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University


A Research Associate is needed in the Department of Physiology at East Carolina University at the Brody School of Medicine to conduct research in an NIH funded grant entitled "Erectile Function and the Influence of Rho-kinase". The research project involves investigating unique signaling mechanisms that contribute to smooth muscle tone in the penile vasculature from normal and pathological states. The research associate will be expected to be current in the literature in the vascular biology field, to plan and conduct experiments, interpret data, and publish results. Techniques that will be performed include use of rodent models for assessment of in vivo erectile function, in vitro tissue pharmacology, cell culture and molecular approaches using antibodies and PCR. Qualified candidates should have an M.D. or Ph.D. degree with training in physiology/pharmacology or experience within these techniques.

Research Assistant Professor

Department of Physiology

The Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University

 

The Department of Physiology in the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University seeks a full-time Research Assistant Professor to join an interdisciplinary cardiopulmonary research group.  The successful candidate will work as part of a research team to conduct externally-funded studies of asthma and fibrotic lung diseases using in vivo and in vitro approaches, solicit funding, and report results.  Candidates must have a Ph.D., DVM, M.D., or equivalent degree; postdoctoral training in pulmonary physiology/pharmacology/toxicology; experience in pulmonary function testing;and excellent research and communication skills.  Experience in studying or training nonhuman primates is beneficial.  Salary will be commensurate with experience and potential for success.
