Maydell Turner Edwards Scholarship

The Maydell Turner Edwards Physical Therapy Scholarship has been established at East Carolina University in honor of Maydell T. Edwards. Her family and friends knew her to be a strong, independent lady of conviction.  A widow since the late 1960's, she worked until she was in her late seventies, with her last job as a caregiver for a lady ten years younger.  She always kept a garden, but refused to use a power plow.  She insisted on using a mule drawn plow, but without a mule.  She inspired those around her to work hard, practice honesty, and make their own successes by example.  She became quite knowledgeable of physical therapy by experience.  She once had bilateral knee replacements completed at the same time.  With her push and motivation, she was home in a little over a week.

Lyllian Pearl Eason Scholarship

The Lyllian Pearl Eason Physical Therapy Scholarship has been established at East Carolina University in honor of Lyllian P. Eason. "Pearl", as her family and friends addressed her, was no stranger to physical therapy as she underwent hip surgeries, requiring physical therapy herself.  Although an active lady for many years, she spent the last several years of her life in skilled nursing facilities.  Although she couldn't get around on her own, she always had a warm encouraging smile for those who passed by her door.  She always had a kind word and thought for every situation.  Her family remembers her for the lessons she taught them about strength, the value of family and hard work, taking care of your neighbors, and looking out for those who are in need.
