Jean Mills Symposium

The 15th Annual Jean Mills was held on Friday, February 22, 2019 at Cornerstone Baptist Church. The ECU Department of Public Health was honored to partner with the College of Allied Health Sciences on this event. About 50 community residents attended, and were able to receive health screenings and health information from community agencies. Reverend Richard Joyner, Pastor of Conetoe Baptist Church, gave a rousing charge to the audience to take charge of their family's and their community's health. Stephanie Pitts

Grant Award

Drs. Stephanie Pitts, Ann Rafferty, and Qiang Wu, along with others across the state, were awarded a $250,000 grant to study the impact of the NC Healthy Food Small Retailer Project on food environments of small corner/convenience stores, as well as customers' dietary behaviors.

Lea selected as EOSA Scholar

Dr. Suzanne Lea has been selected to be a part of the 2019 Cohort for the Engagement and Outreach Scholars Academy (EOSA) for the ECU Office of Community Engagement and Research. The Academy provides professional development and project support for community engagement. Faculty selected to the program participate in cohort-based workshops and develop research projects with community partners.

Lok Pokhrel

Pokhrel has book chapter accepted for publication

Dr. Lok Pokhrel along with two MPH students, Rebecca Dean and William Burrows and a former honors student, ZL Jacobs are co-authors on a book chapter. The chapter is titled "Sustainable Nanotechnology-enabled innovative filters for point-of-use (POU) drinking water treatments. 2019 (In: Characterization Tools for Nanotechnology for Environment, Health and Safety.
