Interventional Pulmonology
It is a new area of medicine that addresses the diagnosis and treatment of lung disease. New technology offers to change the treatment for airway disease, lung cancer, and pleural disease (involving the lining of the lungs).

The interventional pulmonologist is trained to evaluate and treat shortness of breath, wheezing, lung nodules, hemoptysis (coughing up blood), pleural effusions (fluid collection around the lung) and lung cancer. There are many new techniques available to treat these conditions.

The interventional pulmonologists at ECU are known internationally and involved in ground-breaking research.
