A team of highly trained individuals provides services for the campers at Take Off 4-Health. The Eastern 4-H Center has many years of experience hiring well qualified, caring individuals to serve as cabin counselors and activity instructors. They have trained life guards at the pool at all times and a trained health and safety counselor.

Nutrition Teaching

Specialized Instructors: ECU graduate students in nutrition, exercise and sport science, physical therapy, psychology and other related disciplines serve as specialized instructors at the camp under the supervision of licensed professionals. These instructors include:

  • A Nutrition Coach
  • A Physical Activity Coach
  • Two Lifestyle Coaches

The camp also draws on the educational experience of North Carolina Cooperative Extension agents to provide nutrition instruction at Take Off 4-Health.

Medical Family Therapist: A licensed Medical Family Therapist provides group counseling to campers through weekly sessions.

Medical Care: A registered nurse is available onsite 24/7 to administer medications and provide basic first aid and first responder medical care. The nurse is under the supervision of Dr. Collier who is on call 24/7 for the three-week camp.

Pediatric and family medicine residents from the ECU Brody School of Medicine, working under Dr. Collier’s supervision, also provide medical support for the camp through community rotations.
